The New Fall Season

Ok, here is a list of shows that I want to start watching. It's been a busy week, and I haven't had time to watch any of them yet, but I have a few of them on the DVR (my girlfriends).

1. My Name is Earl - When I originally heard about this show, I thought it would be awesome, then the previews started and I'd rather stick a hot poker in my eye than see another one of those "interrupting an old lady in the middle of a Dodgers game" commercials. I still have to give it a chance, despite the NBC marketing department's annoying ploy to make me see Jason Lee in my sleep.

2. Lost - I don't watch this show. I am a loser. In my attempt to cool myself up a bit, I have borrowed the DVD set and plan to start watching season 2 as soon as I am done with season 1. I have already programmed it in to the DVR.

3. Kitchen Confidential - The book is a favorite of mine, therefore I was pissed when I heard that Fox was going to make a fictional show based on the non-fictional book. But, I am oddly curious and it has great "buzz" around it. (yes, I said buzz... Yes, I am playing right in to their hand)

4. How I Met Your Mother - It has Doogie in it! I bet he's not doing blow off of the back of a stripper like in Harold and Kumar, but nonetheless... DOOGIE!

5. Everybody Hates Chris - I have my doubts on this because it's on UPN. Does that make me a racist?

Mrs. Piazza, Tom Glavine, and Fantasy Football

So, yesterday turned out to be the perfect day. Not only did a few of us get to sit in the sun and watch Glavine pitch a great (although meaningless) baseball game, but we also got to sit a few rows behind Mrs. Mike Piazza herself, Alicia Rickter (by the way... this link is definitely NOT safe for work). That's right ladies and gentlemen. That is a photo taken from my hi-tech camera-phone of the former Playboy Playmate's posterior. I don't know how Danny got in that picture, but he was giving the "Dio Rules" devil horns all day. It was just that kind of afternoon.
After the game, we headed on down the 7 line back to the big city, where we basked in the glory of a dozen or so big screen TV's to watch football. By the way, if anyone is interested, I came across this list of Fantasy Friendly bars. All of which are equipped with free WiFi "where you can eat and drink well, then gloat about nabbing LaBrandon Toefield the moment Fred Taylor's groin snaps off the bone. Again." I propose a downtown Lucky Jack's trip one Sunday.

A Wonderful Day

I just wanted to write something real quick today about yesterday, the 4 year anniversary of the World Trade Center attack.

Yesterday, if you just take the sports happenings (which many people pay attention to) was just a fitting way to spend this Sunday. In addition to watching the moving ceremony (which I always make sure I do) in the morning, I then proceeded to hang out with my friends to watch football all day.

Here is what happened yesterday. The New York Football Giants won at Giants Stadium. The New York Yankees beat the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium. Andre Agassi (USA) almost became the oldest winner of the US Open, played at Flushing Meadows, NYC. The Washington Redskins beat the Bears 9-7 (uggh) in DC. And, the New Orleans Saints beat the Carolina Panthers in a come from behind win, when everyone had said they would fold like a cheap suit in the aftermath of Hurrican Katrina.

I know it might sound trite and pithy, but I can't help but think that these players and these fans on these teams had a little something in the back of their head yesterday that spurred all this on. I think rememberance and adversity make you do funny things. And in this corner of the world, on one important day, it was pretty cool.
