Priceless Picture of the Day

Bookie D sent me this great picture today, which is simply crying out to be posted on this blog. My question to you all is this: Which of these three athletes wasted the most talent? I'll have to go with Straw. The guy had one of the sweetest swings I've ever seen, monstrous power, and could run like a deer. Coulda been a cross between Ted Williams and a pre-'roids Barry Bonds. Truly depressing what happened to him.

Since no one's responded, I'll note that I just now heard on the FAN that Anna Benson filed for divorce. Can we get him back now?

Let me get this straight - first, you accuse us of not having any faith in our team. Then, you try to goad us into betting that they'll somehow get more wins than the Yankees? Thank you for having so much faith in our intelligence. It warms the heart.

I'm going with Strawberry. While Doc had electric stuff and could have been one of the greats, there were also signs that the coaches were overworking him. I also read that Mel Stottlmeyer was even screwing with his mechanics. In short, I'm not entirely convinced Doc would have been great for long even without the drugs. Tyson was big-time, but was really more of a glorified puncher who dominated a weak era. As much as we all try to make him into Mohammad Ali, he was never really close. Straw was the complete package--power bat, RBI machine who could run. His longevity notwithstanding, he really could have been one of the all-time greats. In fact, his longevity was due mainly to the fact that he had so much natural talent, that people (i.e., Steinbrenner) kept giving him chances.

I would take the Mets in the wager if I could add on the 5 or so wins that I think Willy is going to cost the team this year. It now appears that Jose Lima (he of the 8.59 ERA and .328 batting average against this spring) will make the Mets roster this year as a long reliever/spot starter. Here is a team that traded away 2 starters in exchange for relievers that were so bad that the team had to demote a bona fide major league starter to the bullpen, and they still would rather have Jose Lima spot start than the guy who proved he was up to the task. Well, Jose does have a hot wife, so at least that's something.

I just heard on the FAN that there will be no Lima Time at Shea for Opening Day. Jose did not make the roster. Please disregard the bottom half of my last post, though Willie is still a dope. Speaking of Dopes, Mike Francessa took the "over" on Met wins this year. I forget what the number was, but I think it's 90.

Here is a pic of Jose Lima singing the national anthem flanked by his kid and wife. I can't help but notice that his wife's boob is bigger than his kid's head.
