Hi, McDev! It's Time For Yet Another Mets Post

Well, you knew this was coming. 10-2, best record in the majors, and, by far my favorite stat, the only team in major league HISTORY to build a 5 game lead after 12 games. The '98 Yankees? No, of course we're talking about the M-E-T-S, METSMETSMETS. Yep, it's only April, but how would last year have turned out if the Mets had started 5-0 instead of 0-5?

Actually, the true reason for this post is not to talk about Xavier Nady (is he really this good?), Carlos Delgado (might be the most consistent slugger the Mets have ever had) or Duaner Sanchez (Jae who?). No, it's to post the brand-spanking-new reprehensible Mets team song. I only got through about 5 seconds of this abomination before I had to turn it off. If you get through more than that, god bless you. This makes the 1986 song ("Let's Go Mets, GO!") seem like something off of Abbey Road. Why do teams insist on putting things like this out there? Although I must say, I used to get really hyped up by the "GO NY GO NY GO" song at the Garden back in the early 90's - you know, back when they had a basketball team playing there.

I just threw up my breakfast in my mouth from listening to that song, then swallowed it and then threw it up again.

"It's a..a black day for mets fans"

Well, at least we're winning, all thanks to willie and their new song!

Oh my god... that song is the most embarrassing song I have ever heard. I would rather listen to 9 straight hours of "Whoomp, There it is!" than listen to 5 seconds of that horrible ditty. Just to cleanse the palette of my brain, here's a link to the 1986 video.

Damn...that video needs to be put in some mid-80s time capsule somewhere. Gary Carter attempting to dance...male fans with mullets and cut-off t-shirts...Kevin Mitchell wearing glasses borrowed from one of the Fat Boys...rhyming "teamwork" with "dream work"....sheer brilliance.

It's nice to see that while the Met players are working hard to restore respectability to the franchise, the Mets front office is doing everything they can to help the team remain a laughingstock. That song sounds like a reject from a 2 Live Crew album from 1992.

I can't defend the song, but lots of great teams have had these embarassing songs - the 86 Mets and 86 Bears - for starters. Apparently someone, somewhere determined that it makes the team money. Bottom line is, if they keep winning like this, they could play the "Barney" theme at Shea for all I care.
